In addition, candle holders come in all shapes and sizes and can fit virtually anyone s personal taste.

There are numerous types of candle holders available to beautify your home. There are companies that cater especially for those who want to purchase candle holders. To quickly and easily decorate a blank wall, look at some of the scrolled ironwork candle holders. Handcrafted wrought iron candle holders make a stylish addition to a table or a centerpiece. These types of candle holders can be bought to hold one or several candles. Try placing long tapered candles in candle holders to decorate a mantel.

Candle holders also make great gifts. Just about anyone can appreciate a pretty candle holder with a nice scented candle. Candle holders are certainly a one size fits all gift. In addition, candle holders can be bought in a wide variety of sizes and in just about any material. Small glass candle holders are good for individual candles. Try making a gift basket filled with several small candle holders and small candles. Find a different candle scent for every month of the year.

Kids can enjoy making a variety of candle holders for gifts, too. These easy-to-make crafts make a perfect rainy day activity. Try helping your child make these candle holders one day. Give these homemade gifts to teachers or grandparents for a truly personalized gift.

Here are some easy to make candle holders that children can enjoy with a little help.

Supplies needed:

Small tea candle
Empty baby food jar
Colored tissue
Glue and paintbrush

Make a candle holder just the right size for a tea light candle out of a recycled baby food jar. Remove the label from the baby food jar and clean thoroughly. Give your child scraps of brightly colored tissue paper and glue mixed with a little water. Have your child brush the glue on the baby food jar and glue the tissue in pace. When the jar is completely covered with tissue paper, go over the jar again with another layer of glue. Add a tea light candle and you have just created a perfect candle holder gift.

Here is another idea for making a unique candle holder out of soup or vegetable cans.

Supplies needed:

Empty soup can
Hammer and nail

Remove the label off of the can and clean well. If the label on the can is difficult to remove, you can soak the can in warm soapy water and continue to remove the label. After the can is clean, fill it to the top with water and place in the freezer. When the water is frozen, use a hammer and a nail to pound holes into the can. The ice inside the can will help it hold its shape. Be creative with the design. Let the ice melt and place a small candle or tea light candle inside. These candle holders look pretty outside around the holiday season.

A low maintenance and durable material, vinyl siding is an increasingly popular home exterior. Even though it is a low maintenance material, you will still want to clean your vinyl siding from time to time. Just make sure you know about the best cleaning methods before you get started.

Simple maintenance cleaning of your vinyl siding is fairly straightforward. Use a long-handled brush with soft bristles or a soft cloth to wipe it down with soap and water. If your vinyl siding has textured surfaces to it, you will want to use only the brush with soft bristles so as to avoid wiping stains into the grooves with a cloth. Start with the vinyl siding at the bottom of your house and work your way up. This will help to prevent streaking from the soapy water running down your house. If you have other materials, such as brick, on parts of your home, cover them so that runoff from your vinyl siding will not affect it. Lastly, always make sure you rinse the area before the cleaning solution dries.

If you want to speed the process of cleaning your vinyl siding along, you can buy or rent a power washer. First of all, however, make sure you have read the instructions on the power washer thoroughly. Second, always make sure you use the power washer at eye level. If you try to point upward, you may end up with water and cleaning solution behind the vinyl siding. These can later leak and cause streaks that can eventually lead to decay.

From time to time, you may find spots of mold or mildew on your vinyl siding. If these spots are small, then you can simply use a name brand household cleaner. Just always be sure to test it on a small portion of your vinyl siding in an inconspicuous place to make sure it will not damage it at all. If, however, the spots of mold or mildew are a little larger, you can use a solution of 30% vinegar and 70% water. Another common homemade solution is mixture of powdered laundry detergent, powdered household cleaner, liquid bleach, and water. It is best to just find the one that is most convenient and effective for you.

Not all vinyl siding stains, however, are mold or mildew. You may end up with dirt, soot, or even animal stains on the outside of your home. If that is the case, there are a number of general cleaners that are approved for use on vinyl siding. Check your local store for simple household cleaners, and then read the containers carefully to find out if they are effective and safe for use on vinyl siding and specifically on whatever the stain is that you have found on your vinyl siding.

Increasingly, vinyl siding is a common home exterior. It is low maintenance, attractive, and easy to install. You may, though, from time to time need to clean your vinyl siding in order to keep it in good working condition. Before you do, make sure you understand what is necessary and what the proper procedure is so that your vinyl siding will look good and last a long time.

Shower doors come in a variety of different designs, according to the style of a particular bathroom. As well as choosing a door that fits in with the look of your room, how it actually opens is an important consideration. This depends on the layout of the room and the amount of space available. For instance, folding shower doors have to be able to open outwards, to prevent the user becoming trapped inside. There must be sufficient space to do this without hitting any existing bathroom fixtures, such as your sink or cabinets.

For smaller bathrooms, a sliding shower door could make more efficient use of limited space. Sliding or bypass doors can be fitted over a bathtub or to a shower stall. They operate by using rollers to glide along tracks. Although space-saving, because the panels overlap and dirt can get trapped in the tracks, it can be tricky to keep them clean. For better accessibility, trackless shower doors are an option. These accordion style doors have the advantages of no tracks to trip over or keep clean.

For corner shower stalls, a pivot or neo angle shower door could make good use of the space available. The finish of the door is another point to consider. Traditionally, doors for showers have been framed. Frames come in a choice of finishes, from polished aluminium to brushed nickel or satin chrome. Frameless shower doors made from tempered glass are a modern alternative. A frameless glass shower door can help let in light to create a more spacious feel, and can be easier to clean. The hinges and handles can be attached directly onto the glass, which can be custom made to fit specific measurements.

A new shower door offers an effective and long lasting means to prevent water leaking out of the shower tub, and can be a stylish addition to any bathroom.

AP Types of Staple-Up Radiant Heating Systems

For the best Tarmac Dublin company, call Active Paving.

For existing homes, a staple-up radiant heat system has become quite popular, but like all products a staple-up radiant heat system needs to be installed correctly. Listed here are some additional products to consider that will maximize your heating efficiency and save you money.

radiant heat for floor joists, radiant floor heat, in floor radiant heat, radiant under floor heat

To find the best Tarmac Dublin company, click here for Active Paving.
Under-floor radiant heat is ideal for homeowners that want to take advantage of the clean, even heat of a radiant heat system, but without the additional cost and labor of replacing your entire floors.

Under-floor radiant heat systems are installed underneath the current sub floor between the floor joists. This kind of installation is not as responsive as the aluminum base method but is more responsive than the thermal mass method.

Under-floor radiant heat needs to heat the wood sub-floor and floor covering above so it can radiate heat into your home. This makes it the most unobtrusive radiant heat to install in an existing home. It will not add any additional floor height or disrupt your existing floor coverings.

There are a few common under-floor installation methods: staple-up with heat transfer plates, staple-up without heat transfer plates, and hanging tubing in the joist space. This is how they differ.

Staple-Up With Heat Transfer Plates

These systems use thin aluminum heat transfer plates that are stapled up with radiant heat tubing under your subfloor. The plates are highly conductive and provide a large surface area that will absorb heat more quickly and keep it warm much longer. Using heat transfer plates will disburse heat more evenly throughout the floor than the other under-floor methods.

Most manufactures will make heat transfer plates to accept different sizes of tubing. So you need to match the width of your heat transfer plates to the size of your tubing. Heat transfer plates also range anywhere from 5 to 12 inches wide depending on the brand you choose.

You will want to get the best plate coverage possible. If using narrow plates, you should run two rows between each floor joist. By separating the tubing runs by around 8″ you will obtain a much more even heating pattern in the floor above.

Check each heat transfer plate before you insert them into the tubing. Be aware of any sharp edges on the transfer plates as they might cut or damage the tubing. Installation is easy, simply snap the plate around the tubing and fasten it to the underside of the sub-floor.

If you are installing 12″ wide plate, you will usually find pre-made grooves for two tubes. Simply make certain that each heat transfer plate is stapled up in the center of the floor joists. When you staple up the plates, staples towards the outside edges of the plate as well as one row of staples down the middle.

By placing the staples on the outside edges of the plates you allow the tubing to be away from the sub floor and will help prevent any noises caused by expansion and contraction of the tubing.

Staple Up Without Transfer Plates

When you forgo the heat transfer place, make sure that the proper staples are used to hold the tubing in place. You do not want the tubing to directly contact the sub floor, otherwise, the tubing will make noise as it expands and contracts and rubs against the sub-floor.

Depending on what your design calls for, each tubing run should be placed around 8″ away from each other, This will ensure that you obtain a much more even heating pattern in the floor above.

Hanging in Joists Space

This system suspends the tubing several inches beneath the subfloor in the joist space. When using this method you will purchase joist heating hangers that are designed to be flexible in length, making them easy to install between the floor joists.

These hangers usually come in a couple of different lengths to accommodate joists that are 16″ or 24″ on center. Install your hangers about 2″ below the sub floor and space them out about every 3 feet. This will give you plenty of room to lay the tubing in place. You will just place the tubing on top of the Joist Heating Hangers and allow it to float on the braces.

CC Two things that you Must Do when using Aerosol Spray Paints

Word Count:
762

For the best Tarmac Cork company, call Civil Construction Cork.

By doing two simple things when using aerosol spray paints, you can solve or eliminate common problems. Problems like inconsistent paint color, clogged spray nozzles and the inability to completely empty the aerosol spray paint can. These two simple steps are printed on the labels of most, if not all aerosol spray cans, but are not always read or are the instructions followed.

Have you ever had this happen? Your mailbox is starting to look dull and weathered. It could use a fresh coat of paint. So you decide to paint it the same color as your window shutters. You purchase a can of custom matched aerosol spray paint and you paint the mailbox. It looks great, a perfect match with the window shutters. After using the aerosol spray paint, you replace the cap on the can and put it in your storage room.

A couple of months later, you want to paint an outdoor flower pot the same color as the mailbox. You get the can of aerosol spray paint that you used on the mailbox and you press the spray nozzle and nothing comes out. Even after digging at the opening of the spray nozzle with a paperclip, the can will still not spray. So you end up throwing away a half of can of spray paint and you still need your flower pot painted.

Or maybe it did spray, but now the color does not match the mailbox and shutters. It had changed colors or something. It might have even looked like the right color at first, but changed color as you used it. Again, you end up discarding the half-filled can of paint. What a waste of your time and money. What caused these problems? Is there something you were doing wrong?

At one time or another, everyone one has used an aerosol can of some type. It is simple and anyone can use them. You just point the can, press the spray nozzle and that s it. Even though it seems very simple, there are important instructions and safety precautions that need to be followed.

These are printed on the labels of each aerosol spray paint can. They include instructions about shaking the can, when and where to use the product. Even how to properly clear the spray nozzle after each use. That will ensure that the next time you need to use the can, it will be ready. Certain steps should always be taken, every time you use an aerosol spray paint.

The first and the last things that you do, when using an aerosol spray paint are the most important. The first step is always to shake the can vigorously, and listen for the shaker ball to rattle. Then continue to shake the can for at least one to three minutes. This helps to assure that the paint is thoroughly mixed with the solvents and propellant that are also enclosed in the can.

When the color of the paint varies from the expected color, the most common solution to this problem is to vigorously shake the can. Since the propellant used in aerosols is a liquid gas, the propellant mixes with and actually becomes part of the paint.

The pressure of the propellant as it escapes through the opening of the spray nozzle, allows the paint mixture to propel out of the aerosol can. Thus another important reason for shaking the can. During use, the can should be occasionally shaken to insure that the paint stays thoroughly mixed at all times. The pigments of the paint can settle to the bottom of the can, while spraying for a long period of time.

To insure that the aerosol spray paint works every time it is used and the contents of the container are completely emptied out. The last thing you must do, is to clear the spray nozzle. When you are finished using the aerosol spray paint, you must turn the can upside down and press the spray nozzle. This removes the paint that was left in the spray nozzle and the dip tube.

Immediately after the paint has been cleared from the spray nozzle and dip tube, the color of the spray will become clear. At that point, the spray nozzle has been adequately cleared of paint. You can now replace the cap and store as recommended on the can label. The aerosol spray paint will be ready for the next time you need it. When using aerosol spray paint, these two very simple, but very important steps must be taken to achieve maximum results.

So if you follow these simple and important instructions, when using aerosol spray paints, you will help ensure that the color of the paint stays uniform with the original color. You will be able to completely empty the paint from the cans and get the maximum coverage that you deserve. Using aerosol spray paints are economical, easy to use and produce professional results.

Decorating your home can be a daunting task, but it is one that will reward you many times over. Determining your personal style allows you to create a theme that you can carry from room to room, giving the house a cohesiveness, even if your style is eclectic.

Your furniture is the backbone of the home. It is important to choose wisely and then formulate your design plan around your choices. After you have laid that foundation in place, you can begin to look at complementary fabrics and colors – eventually visiting paint, window coverings, floor coverings, lighting, and accents in turn.

Discover your style and go from there. Your taste may range from traditional to country to casual to contemporary to modern, or anywhere in between. You can choose from materials such as woods, metals, glass, even plastics. You may like intricate designs or strong, simple lines, such as in the Mission style. You may want your pieces to be heavy and substantial, perhaps dramatic, or the sharp, linear design of Minimalism may appeal to you.

When you are considering your preference for what appeals to you, take into account too how you envision your home’s primary function. Is it to be a comfortable haven for your family? Do you plan to entertain elegantly? Do you want a serene, cool, calming environment? Do you prefer an eclectic, cozy, warm nook? Is it to be an open, airy affair or more somber? Casual? Luxurious? Formal? Rustic?

If your style is casual, and you are looking to make an inviting home for you and your family, you are likely to want the warm glow of woods, either light or dramtically dark, and soft, inviting fabrics. If you prefer a more traditional, formal look, you are likely to choose rich fabrics, including damask and velvet, and woods, such as cherry or mahogany. For the modern approach, you may incorporate many materials – light, blonde woods, sleek metals like chrome and aluminum, and simple fabrics.

Whatever your taste, you can find fabulous pieces that express your style.

This material is beautiful and available in a wide variety of colors and shades, from very light to dark. There is a cork floor to match any home d cor. It also comes in a wide variety of textures and patterns, including marble and wood grain patterns that resemble pergo flooring.

Benefits of Cork Flooring

Cork is a great insulating material. It keeps your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. The energy efficiency aids in cutting energy bills in the winter. It is much more energy efficient than either Armstrong laminate flooring or discount wood flooring. Cork is also good for sound insulation. It helps cut down noise from another room, or another floor.

This material is softer on your feet than ceramic tile, bellawood or any other wood or stone flooring material. This is more comfortable in the kitchen, when you may spend a lot of time on your feet. In addition, if you drop a dish, it won t break as easily as it would on a tile or stone floor. Another benefit, cork is naturally fire retardant.

Cork is also good for the environment. It is made from the bark of the cork oak tree. These trees grow primarily in Spain and Portugal. The trees are not cut down. The bark is stripped away, without killing the tree. It immediately begins to grow back and can be peeled again about every nine years. This flooring does not contribute to deforestation, which is considered a big problem on our planet today.

Installing Cork Flooring

Installation is done by either nailing or gluing down the material. It can be installed over wood or concrete. It s important to be sure the subfloor is completely dry. Applying a sealer before installing the floor helps prepare the surface and controls moisture. Peel and stick cork tiles are also available for easy installation.

Spread the adhesive on the subfloor with a paint roller. Once the tiles are laid, you will hardly see the seams. A razor knife can be used to cut tiles to fit around corners or angles in the room. Once the tiles are laid, you will need to roll the floor with a 100 pound floor roller. These can be rented from most places where other tools are rented. A clear urethane can be applied over the floor for added protection.

Cork is fairly easy to clean and maintain. Sweep with a broom to remove debris. You can mop the floor with a damp mop as needed. The finish may begin to wear off after several years. Floor sanders can be used to sand the floor lightly. Reapply a coat of urethane after sanding to protect the floor. You can apply several coats, sanding lightly between each coat, for added protection. Several coats of clear urethane will make the floor more water resistant.

When it comes to saving energy, it pays to conserve. American consumers pay about $25 billion annually to heat and cool air that eventually leaks to the outdoors. The collective cost for this wasted energy is enormous, an amount equivalent to the value of the oil produced by the Alaska Pipeline.

It makes sense to think about the efficiency of your home. As you do, take some time to consider your windows. Windows are one of the leading sources of air leakage, allowing hot air to creep indoors during the summer and warm, heated air to work its way outside in the colder months. By taking the appropriate steps, you can effectively boost window insulation and better maintain the overall comfort level of your home.

Here are five window insulation tips, provided by Comfortex BlindCrafter Centers, to help you conserve energy this winter:

* Caulk cracks or holes in your windows or install weather stripping around the window sash and frame to seal off the areas prone to air flow.

* Install either interior or exterior storm windows. Storm windows can easily reduce the heat loss through your windows by 25 percent to 50 percent while limiting drafts and condensation. Be sure the storm windows have sufficient weather stripping and interlocking or overlapping joints to maximize their effectiveness.

* Insulate your home with energy-efficient window treatments, such as cellular shades, that provide an insulating barrier on your windows to prevent cold air from entering and warm air from escaping.

* Keep window treatments closed at night. Open them during the day to take advantage of the sun’s rays for natural solar heating.

* Clean your windows, especially on the southern side of your home. This allows for maximum solar gain throughout the day and clean glass allows this to happen more readily.

If you’d like to add new window treatments to help save energy in your home, you may be able to get them for free.

Comfortex BlindCrafter has launched a nationwide Ultimate Window Shade Makeover Contest. The grand prize winner will receive Comfortex custom window shades for every window in his or her home – a $25,000 value.

This will come as no surprise, but were you aware that most owners of new homes are unhappy with their low-flow toilets?

Since 1992, when the U.S. government mandated the low-flows, we Americans have been subjected to considerably less flushing power…about half the water per flush than the old fashioned type. The newer units use about one and a half gallons of water versus the older ones that use about three and a half. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out what will happen: half (or less)efficiency out of our new plumbing fixture.

To be sure, technology is working to solve the problem but the issue remains: we are simply not getting the service out of our “thrones” like we once did.

Among the issues are that multiple flushes are needed to dispense of the same amount of waste, clogging problems, and additional maintenance. Also, they have been reported to overflow more easily.

Some of the above issues completely work against the issue of saving water. After all, if you have to flush 2 or more times, how does that save water. Beyond that, though, clogging and overflow problems result in potentially catastrophic expenses when flooring needs to be replaced due to an overflowing toilet.

A recent survey of new home builders and remodelers has shown that they, like homeowners, are frustrated with this new plumbing restriction. They have reported huge increases on service calls from unhappy customers.

Water saving techniques and technologies are certainly a good thing. And, one thing is for sure: they are here to stay. In fact, a home with low-flow toilets and low-flow shower heads can save thousands of gallons per year. And, who would not appreciate the savings in water bills? Let’s just hope that the plumbing technology continues to get better.

After all, to be king of your household, you need an efficient and affordable throne!

Although you may not be awake to see it, the bedroom is where you spend most of your time. Other then the kitchen, the bedroom sets your mood for the entire day and relaxes you after the day is done. Having the correct furniture for you and the space will dictate how you feel for the day and evening. Finding the right combination of furniture pieces can often be difficult and expensive so, how do you go about finding the right furniture for you as you troll the furniture stores?

Who are you?

This first question is directed not at what you like to do but more toward a realistic assessment of your personality. Are you a whimsical personality or are you a fairly stiff personality. Are you organized or are you a pack rat. It is important that you be honest about who you are when thinking about your bedroom because changing who you are is something that doesn’t work. If you are a pack rat by nature, everything you collect will eventually overwhelm you if you categorize yourself as organized. An organized pack rat is possible but don’t kid yourself. As you shop for your bedroom furniture keep in mind who you are and how the furniture will fit into that assessment.

Personal style

Choosing furniture with personal style in mind has very little to do with being honest about who you are. Personal style has more to do with flair, being laidback, being earthy or being wild. Generally, how you think of personal style will dictate where you shop for your furniture. If you are earthy in style you will likely be interested in Mission style furniture while if you are interested in a wild style you will likely want to go modern. The difference between style and who you are is that the furniture pieces you choose will have particular design aspects that meet who you are while looking like your style.

User’s age

The age of the person using the bedroom is a fairly important item to consider. Tastes change, the younger a person is the more the taste will change over time. With this in mind choosing furniture that will likely be used by several younger people or given away is important. If you are looking for furniture for a “jumper” keep “sturdy” in mind. As the user’s age gets older you will be able to either think generic, if the furniture is for a guestroom, or quality that will last as your tastes settle into what they will likely be for the rest of your life.

Room size/master suite

From a practical point of view, the dimensions of the room are fairly important. If you purchase a king-sized bed for a room that really isn’t large enough for it you are pretty much shooting yourself in the foot. Consider where you would like the bedroom to end up from a design standpoint before you go to wild with furniture purchases. Start by being practical and then grow from there. Start with a bed of appropriate size and a dresser that has the right number of drawers for your needs. The mattress can just be a mattress that works for the room while the dresser should be the first piece that is directed by your style and character.

Lighting

As you are looking to meet the foregoing criteria for your bedroom furniture, consider how much light is going into the space from outside. Not lit space from lamps, but natural light. Heavier darker woods will really drag the room down if there is not enough natural light to “lighten” them up a bit. The room may work fine with artificial light at night but if you are planning to be there during daylight hours, prepare for a totally different space.

Price range

There is a very good reason that people end up with an eclectic set of furniture in their homes or apartments, good furniture is expensive. In some respects, this is not such a bad thing. Be a good savvy furniture shopper and shop for one or two quality pieces at a time, don’t go out and search for the entire bedroom set at once and pay less. This furniture is likely stapled together and will fall apart after a few years of continued use. If you’re shopping for the last of your children, that’s one thing. If you’re shopping for yourself, find the right piece or two that will stay with you for a long time and pay more for it. As the money begins to show up add another quality piece that is in line with your character and style. Try to be realistic with yourself when it comes to style. In other words, don’t be a slave to fashion style. When you’re buying these more expensive quality pieces, stick with the classic forms. If need be, you can reupholster on a quality frame that can withstand a bomb landing on it.
